tour of Gurdwara Shri
Reetha Sahib on 19th

Seher,
the spiritual morning show on BIG MAGIC, at
7.00 pm, on coming Monday, December 19th, will take the devotees to Gurdwara Shri Reetha Sahib, the religious place of the Sikhs.
It is situated in the Reetha Sahib Village District Champawat, Uttarakhand.
It
is said that the founder of Sikhism, Guru
Nanak Dev ji, visited this place and held several spiritual discourses with
the Nath yogis, who lived there. On one of Guru Nanak Dev’s visits Bhai Mardana
ji asked Guru Sahib for food. Guru Sahib asked Bhai Sahib to ask the yogis. The
yogis denied and said to ask your Guru Dev, who is a Spiritual Man. Then Guru Nanak Dev Ji asked Bhai Mardana ji
to eat Reetha, a fruit on the tree which normally is not sweet. However, when
Bhai Mardana ji tasted the Reetha fruit he found it was sweet. It is said that
the fruits were sweet on the side of the tree where Guru Sahib was sitting, and
sour on the other side.
The
yogis were annoyed and sent a snake on tree with their powers. But when Guru Nanak Dev Ji looked at the snake it
just froze! Even today Reetha fruit is distributed as part of the prasad and the tree still stands in the premises of
the Gurdwara Shri
Reetha Sahib. The Devnath temple is also located beside the
Gurudwara and on the day of Baisakhi Purnima, the holy day of the Sikhs, a mela
is held in the premises of the Gurudwara..
